Lap Band Risks
The top risks related to gastric lap banding are much lower when compared to other bariatric surgery methods. The reason is because the banding procedure does not require gastric cavity opening so no need for cutting, stapling or bypassing. Thus, a large portion of risk and possibility of infections generally linked to obesity surgery are taken out of the equation.
Possible LapBand and Gastric Bypass Side Effects
The number one issue related to the lapband procedure has been the change in size of the stomach pouch which is separated above the band. This pouch could increase in sizebecause of band slippage or the puch walls stretching. Moreover, the possibility of band erosion into the stomach exists
Other possible risks and lap band complications include:
band leakage, stomach band erosion, swallowing problems, stomach pouch enlargement or band slippage , dehydration , weight regain or no weight loss , blockage in stomach, nausea , reflux or vomiting , constipation , ulcers, gastritis, and in very few instances, death
Keep in mind one of the top benefits of lapband surgery is it can be removed or replaced if any adverse side effects become serious or life-threatening.
